Battle for Zendikar

October 2ed, Magic returns to Zendikar.

Of more recent Magic The Gathering Sets, Zendikar holds a special place for me. Zendikar came out in 2009, and around that time I was one of those old guard players who were disgruntled at the new Magic 2010 rule changes feeling that the game was moving in a much more casual and user friendly direction, something in my youth I found revolting. My fear at the time was that Magic's metagame will become nothing by a Type 2 standard playpen for daycare children. Then i saw the cards for Zendikar, and I was a believer (to a certain degree, I still miss Mana Burn).

Zendikar had one of the best themes and stories since the Brother's War era, a theme of a plane where the foundation or reality was coming to a cataclysm. The mechanics brought out that theme perfectly, introducing one of the funnest mechanics I'd seen in a long time; Landfall. The presentation was above and beyond the normal Wizards of the cost was giving us for a while, I didn't know a single person playing at the time who wasn't hunting down those full art land cards by the hundreds. Finally, Zendikar proved that Magic's R&D knew what they were doing with the 2010 rules, by reshaping the metagame to be competitive, challenging, and more user friendly than the game had been in a very long time. Zendikar was amazing.

October 2ed, Magic returns to Zendikar. Today begins The Battle For Zendikar. Returning once again are the full art land cards, so with that alone be sure to hurry up before we INEVITABLY sell out of our entire stock before Monday. Battle For Zendikar is the first in what R&D are now calling their Two-Block Paradigm essentially meaning that this block will cycle out slightly faster than we the previous three set blocks, but ultimately it will mean each set lasts a little longer. The set contains 274 cards (25 basic lands, 101 commons, 80 uncommons, 53 rares, 15 mythic rares) and includes randomly inserted premium versions of all cards in the set. The full art lands will appear in booster packs and fat packs, but not in intro packs.
